Andy Aponte

Brooklyn, NY

Andy Aponte (b. 1997, Brooklyn, NY) is an interdisciplinary artist and organizer currently living and working in New York City, and holds a BFA in Painting from SUNY New Paltz. Primarily utilizing leather and painting, their work serves as a liberatory space for the viewer and subject to convene, outside of limitations, contextualized by surreal settings and saturated color palettes. They have exhibited work in galleries including Below Grand, 7HouseNy, The Living Gallery, and Brooklyn’s Art Along the Canal. They were selected to participate in the 2025 New Art School Modalities, Notes from the Artists' Studio residency. They are a production manager, and have produced shows including Steffani Jemison’s 2024 Art Basel Paris exhibition, which won the Lafayette Anticipations emergent award and residency. In their organizing work, they have spoken on panels at Mayday Space and Manhattanville College, and they co-founded Artists in Resistance, a free lending library for air purifiers for arts workers in New York. They are an active street medic trained by New York City Action Medical, and participate in mutual aid and organizing efforts throughout Brooklyn.
